Ghosts of the Desert tells the story of Gertrude Bell, the British woman who fell in love with the Middle East and served as a spy during World War I. Because of her knowledge of and experience in the region, she was charged with drawing up boundaries for the new country of Iraq, following the war. Ticket includes a box lunch if purchased 24 hours or more before the show.

Janina Birtolo The Marco Players

Janina Birtolo is an award-winning actress and writer. A graduate of Boston College and Boston University, she has been a freelance and staff writer, first in the Boston area and on Cape Cod and, since 1990, in Naples. Her work has appeared nationally and in such local publications as Gulfshore Life, Times of the Islands and Naples Health. She is also an independent producer for WGCU Public TV, having worked on such shows as Arts Edition Primetime and Connect! In 2001, she was selected “Writer of the Year” by the Florida Magazine Association, and in 2014 she won her fourth Telly Award for MAKERS: Women Who Made Southwest Florida, which she wrote and produced.
